Scales vs Chord tones. In this lesson I show you the right way to improvise with chord tones with just a little bit of music theory. There can be a bit of controversy here. Some say SCALES are best for how to improvise jazz. Others say focusing in on CHORD TONES the best method to improvise jazz.

The truth is all the jazz masters that came before us didn't think scales very often. They played more in the way I am going to get you to discover, which is a strategic way of placing chord tones within the measure and linking them together with approach notes, enclosures and chromaticism, to add color, spice, and excitement to their jazz lines. In other words, it's learning how to use the "wrong notes" correctly.

So let me help you transform your playing by knowing how to use the right notes and the wrong notes together. It will change the way you improvise from now on. Now you'll be ripping awesome jazz lines. Once you know, you'll know.

A Great Approach for Me to Play Beautiful Jazz Lines

I am thrilled to have the instruction presented in this lesson. I’m confident that it will help me memorize/remember chords for improvising and play beautiful jazz lines with tension and release. The approach will require lots of drilling on my part, but is straightforward, thorough, yet basically simple.
