You can start improvising jazz by first learning these 5 chord types found in this lesson. Adam shows you some very basic music theory of chords for the 5 most important chords used in jazz and what those notes are for each chord.

There are fretboard diagrams showing you where the notes are for each chord. You then take those chord and use them in an actual chord progression that Adam developed just for this lesson so that all 5 chord types are covered. Examples are in standard notation AND tab. Adam then shows you the absolute best exercise to get these chord tones down an start to learn how to outline chord changes.

If you want to learn to how to improvise jazz you have to learn what notes make up any chord, be able to find them on your instrument, then be able to play them!

The truth is all the jazz masters that came before us didn't think scales very often. They played more in the way I am going to get you to discover, which is a strategic way of placing chord tones within the measure and eventually linking them together with approach notes, enclosures and chromaticism, to add color, spice, and excitement to the jazz lines. In other words; it's learning how to use the "wrong notes" correctly.

The next step would be to check out this lesson so you can take things to the next level using the techniques listed in the previous paragraph -->HERE<--

So let me help you transform your playing by knowing how to start using the right notes before you start using the wrong notes simultaneously. It will change the way you improvise from now on.

Most important jazz chords are Major, Minor and Dominant. Everything else is a form of one of these.

Yes, very true in a broader category. As you know I expanded that to 5 types of those chords.
